5. Sacred Scripture | 25 Gifts of the Church
The Catholic Church existed before the Bible as we know it was compiled. We are thankful that the Church gathered these sacred books so that future generations could hear the living Word of God. The Liturgy of the Word during Mass and the Divine Office are a few examples of how the Catholic Church provides us with numerous opportunities to be immersed in Scripture.
If you haven't spent much time with Scripture, a helpful place to start is in the Gospels. Walk with Dr. John Clabeaux through the Gospel of John in this CatholicTV series, available on demand. You can also break open the Word with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle in The Word Exposed, which provides context and reflections for the Sunday Mass readings.
Another way to pray with Scripture is through Lectio Divina, explained here. Want to introduce your children to Scripture? "What's in the Bible?" airs Sundays at 7:30am, Wednesdays at 8am, and Saturdays at 7am ET, and uses songs and puppets to help kids learn about the Bible.
We truly could spend a lifetime meditating on the Word of God, and we are thankful that the Lord gave his Church the treasure of Sacred Scripture.
