21. Divine Mercy | 25 Gifts of the Church
I sat near the back of the church on Divine Mercy Sunday. I did not want our young children to disturb the people listening intently to the video playing about Saint Faustina. In my effort to keep them wrangled and quiet, I could not really hear the sound or pay attention to the words spoken about the details of Saint Faustina’s diary and encounter with Jesus. What I could see, though, was the prominently placed Divine Mercy image. I had an opportunity to focus on the details of that beautiful image. His eyes appeared to be calling me, desiring my attention. His hand tenderly at His chest, magnified the outpouring of His love and mercy. I felt so humbled to think His heart is ablaze for me! His message was so simple and has become one of my favorite prayers. “Jesus, I trust in you”--The words that sparked a message of mercy to the world also spoke to my heart that day in the back of the church. May you find time, as Christmas draws near, to ponder the blessing of the Lord's Divine Mercy, feel His compassion and forgiveness through the sacrament of Reconciliation, and experience the abundant love He has for you.
