Born and raised in the West Roxbury section of Boston, Kevin Nelson has not strayed too far from his roots. He has been with the CatholicTV Network since January of 1996 and has been involved in many different aspects of the television process. He is currently a senior producer, producing many different shows for the network. Some of the series that Kevin has been involved in developing and producing include, This is the Day, Going My Way, Discernment of Spirits, Online, In The Front Line, The Heart of Prayer, Outlook, Ambassadors for Christ, Open Wide the Doors, and, one of Kevin’s favorites’, Catholic Destinations.
Kevin has also produced many special programs throughout the years, including programs from the Holy Land, Christmas specials, Easter specials, and many seasonal programs about the Catholic Faith. His current projects include School of Faith and The Way of Beauty, along with the weekly news magazine show ClearVoice.
As a host and anchor of Catholic Newsbreak for CatholicTV, Kevin is and has been involved in many special news events that take place through the year, including events visits by Pope Benedict XVI to the United States and the United States Bishops Conference meetings. As a producer, Kevin has been nominated for two regional Emmy awards. He has also won the Proclaim Award from the Catholic Communications Campaign along with two Certificates of Merit.
Since 1999 Kevin has produced the CatholicTV Telethon; coordinating, scheduling, writing, and organizing the two day live event. The Telethon has become a tradition at CatholicTV, highlighting the work of the network and bringing viewers, volunteers and staff together while generating much needed funds for the station.
Before coming to CatholicTV, Kevin worked in radio for eight years. He caught the bug after working at WSHL radio at his alma mater Stonehill College. His first radio job out of college was at a local AM station in Norfolk. From there he worked at radio stations in Worcester (WSRS 96.1 FM) and Cape Cod (WQRC 99.9 FM), as an on-air personality and sports director. He earned an Associated Press award for Sportscast. Kevin also provided weather reports to New England radio stations while working for the New England Weather Bureau. Kevin also has worked at Canton Cable, working in production, doing play-by-play for high school sports and hosting shows.
Along with his BA in Communications from Stonehill College, Kevin also received a Master of Arts in Ministry from Saint John's Seminary. Kevin resides in a suburb South of Boston with his wife Mary and their children Emily and Andrew. When he is not working, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, singing, playing basketball and golfing, and jogging. Kevin enjoys all sports teams from Boston but especially the Patriots and Red Sox.
